If Thoughts Become Things
a show by Karimah Hassan
Opening 24th May
Artist Karimah Hassan unveils her largest body of work to date in the highly anticipated debut of If Thoughts Become Things. Opening at the Inbetween Gallery in Ibiza from May to July 2025, this series features 12 large scale artworks ranging from 2 to 3 metres in width. The collection is a vibrant exploration of dreamscapes and abstract reflections of Ibiza’s enigmatic landscapes, including the historic Dalt Vila and the island’s lesser-seen corners.
Karimah’s work has always been characterised by her bold use of colour and dynamic storytelling, but this series marks a departure — a deeply immersive response to her environment. Created during an artist residency at Dalt Vila over the autumn and winter months, Karimah allowed the island’s unique energy and palette to shape her creative process.
“When people think of Ibiza, they often think of its musical legacy — the pulse of Pacha, the nostalgia of ‘90s ravers, and iconic disco culture,” Karimah explains. “But fewer people consider the island’s magical, ‘invisible’ qualities. The land itself is healing; the light is unique, softer, and more blue on the spectrum. It’s a place that compels you to dream.”
Each painting in If Thoughts Become Things acts as a portal, inviting viewers to reflect on their own imagination and the state of the world. With evocative titles such as “Where Is This Taking Us?”, “What Do Your Dreams Taste Like?”, and “What Colours Do You See When You Close Your Eyes?”, Karimah’s work asks profound questions while bridging utopian visions and apocalyptic undertones.
The series celebrates the emotive power of colour and scale, drawing viewers into vast, otherworldly spaces. “Now more than ever, we need to keep imagining and dreaming,” Karimah says. Through her paintings, she captures Ibiza as a place of transformation, creativity, and healing — a magnet for artists and dreamers alike.
If Thoughts Become Things will be on display at In-between Gallery, Ibiza, from May to July 2025. Visitors are invited to experience the vibrancy and introspection of Karimah Hassan’s latest work.
